This whakataukī sums up one of Lightfoot’s key principles. As an organisation, we’ve evolved rapidly from a small community group setting out to develop programmes to get Queenstowners moving, to something quite different. This has been achieved through cumulative action – which is the only way to GSD. And while we’ve retained the best elements of community and collaboration, our recent registration as a charity will help us achieve our goals more rapidly.

What does registration as a charity mean for the Lightfoot Initiative? It formalises our entity’s status and enables us to make donations and grants go further. Our record keeping becomes more transparent, with our annual reporting and detailed information about our charity publicly available, this adds a layer of trust for our supporters and stakeholders.

Registering as a charity shows our commitments to our community. We’re going to keep getting people out of their cars – just one trip at a time. In doing this, we’re helping create better connected communities, with healthy, vibrant people living, working and playing alongside each other.

Here’s a few of the Lightfoot team celebrating at Cargo at Gantley’s. A beautiful summer night, with 90% of the crew biking, busing or carpooling.
