EASTER EXPRESS – TREASURE TRAIL

KIDS RIDE FREE! COLLECT PRIZES!

The wheels on the bus went all around Queenstown on Easter Friday 2022. Parents and kids jumped aboard the Orbus to follow the Easter Express Treasure Trail all around our beautiful town. The stunning Autumn weather cooperated, and a fun and sunny day was had by all. Some families just rode a line or two (and collected some special medals and Easter eggs). We were excited to meet so many families and groups who were attempting to cover ALL five bus lines – and get the full collectors’ set of medals (plus extra Easter eggs of course). Around 400 medals were distributed so we know the buses were super busy this Easter Friday.

Our five Medal destinations (see the Treasure Map) proved really popular, with a few of them running out of medals and eggs early on in the day. A quick emergency bus trip by one of our volunteers made sure they were topped up with extra medals and eggs super quick!

Kids traveled free, and adults paid just $1 per trip, making this a really affordable way for families to experiment with using the bus. The Lightfoot Team were onsite at the Frankton Bus Hub from 11am – 4pm and had lots of feedback from the families participating. 100% of people we spoke with told us that this event made them more confident to use the bus in the future. Excellent!

Our Easter bunnies delivered surprise eggs onto the buses that arrived at the Frankton Hub to reward the good active travelers who use the bus service regularly. A big thank you to the patient Bus Drivers who let them hop aboard. We had some great drivers who held the service for a few minutes to let families run in and grab their treasure before jumping back on for the next trip! Ka pai Ritchies!

Our secret location Easter Egg hunt saw 50 kids of all ages hunt with dedication and deliberation at the Red Barn in Remarkables Park. We were really pleased to see many of these mini Lightfooters walking and bussing to the secret location.

A big thanks to Orbus, Te Hau Toka Southern Wellbeing and Pak n Save for their support of this event.
