Lightfoot’s guide to the SH6 Upgrade 2023

The Lightfoot Initiative are at it again with another of their saucy guides to 700 page documents. Yes, they’ve digested all the key information and spat it out into a 6 minute video to help you make a submission to QLDC.

Submissions can be emailed to: rcsubmission@qldc.govt.nz – all that is required is to state whether or not you support this Resource Consent RM221079 SH6 upgrades, along with your name and address. Adding comment on some of the points in the video will help inform Council and Waka Kotahi of the communities thoughts.

Here’s an example of what could be sent through:

Kia ora,
I would like to add my general support to RM221079 Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency and Queenstown Lakes District Council SH6 upgrades.
I have the following aspects to consider in the final designs:

  • It would be forward thinking to extend the bus hub to incorporate a waiting room for medium to long haul routes, say to Wanaka, Cromwell, Dunedin, Christchurch
  • More secure, well lit bike parking to ensure future-proofing – we are looking towards mode change in the Whakatipu, increased provision for cyclists will show this
  • The junction layout for the ‘BP Roundabout’ upgrade is great, but please, separate cycle lanes are much safer for kids and adults alike, green paint wears away and is too easily ignored by motorists – physically separated lanes have been proved much safer. Let’s get it right first time.
  • Speed limits around Frankton are confusing, let’s make it easy for locals and tourists alike, and more importantly safer for pedestrians by making it a blanket 40kph

Nga mihi,

Add your name, postal address and phone number.

You have until Thursday 9th March 2023 to get your submissions in!
